grumpy patients

I had many grumpy patients at work today. Most of them were upset because they had to wait longer than normal to be seen. Some of the doctors are out of the office this week for Spring Break so the doctors that are stuck working have a much higher work load than normal. I had one mom telling me how ridiculous it was that she had to wait 20 minutes (20 mintues!) for her daughter to be called back. I told I was sorry for the wait and that I appreciated her patience. "Yeah, well I'm really NOT!" was her reponse. Another man told me how unrespectful it was that he and his wife had to wait so long. He even pointed his finger at me which made me a little mad. I just smile and try and be extra nice. By the time I leave the room they have calmed down and probably feel a little silly for getting so upset. I am not one for conflict and sometime I actally feel like crying when I have patients "yell" at me like that. Part of the job I guess. It doesn't happen very often, but it seemed like there were a lot of grumpy ones today! One of the highlights at work today was the great lunch that the drug rep brought it. It was O' Charley's. She had 2 different kinds of speciality salads (with fresh fruit, candied pecans, cheese, chicken, the works) There was grilled chicken, steak (we NEVER get steak brought in!), 2 different kinds of soup (loaded baked potato and a tomato bisque), lots of those yummy yeast rolls with butter, and to top it all off...chocolate cake with raspberry topping! I was just going to go home and eat a small lunch because I knew we were going to Applebee's tonight to celebrate my friend Amanda's birthday, but I just couldn't pass up all of that good food. See why it is so hard keep your weight down while working in a doctor's office? Too much good food around all of the time....Anyway, we had a fun time at Applebee's tonight. I was delighted to find out that Margaritas (my favorite) are only $3 all day every thursday. We are now settled in for the night watching the Tigers and hoping for another win. I have all of the lights off with only candles lit. It is raining outside so it feels real cozy. Here is a picture of Amanda and I doing a "Superman" shot :)

those DARN patients. I am always careful not to take out my frustration on the nurses or assistants...it sure is not thier fault that the Doctor is running behind....good grief, 20 minutes?????I have had to wait over an hour on several occasions. I had my bone scan yesterday, they inject you will some dye and then you have to wait 2 hours and drink a lot of water....
The food the reps brought in sounds great. I have to get back on a diet and hope to lose a few pounds before the wedding. The thyroid problem I have been having is not helping, the main problem is I eat too much of the wrong foods...I digress.
Too bad about the Tigers last night, they did have some hits. The blog is very cool.Keep it up

There is no excuse for rude behaviour from patients. In fact, it could be a flag that they shouldn't be treated there. I'm a risk manager/claims rep for dentists and we advise our doctors to dismiss patients that are not respectful to their staffs.
