Medifast: Day 1

Today was my first day on the Medifast diet. It wasn't too bad. For those who aren't familiar with Medifast it is a meal replacement diet. You eat 5 Medifast "meals" each day and 1 "lean and green" meal each day. Most of their meals contain between 90-110 calories each so you are only consuming about 1000 calories each day. After a couple of days your body gets into a fat burning state (ketosis). Once you reach ketosis you should have more energy and shouldn't feel hungry anymore. But you can't cheat! Just one little slip (a cookie) will throw your body off. It's pretty strict but is supposed to work really well and quickly. There's a doctor in my office who has last 16 pounds in just over 2 weeks. There is no dairy, fruit, or bread products allowed. Once you reach your goal weight you can slowly start bringing normal food back into your diet. I'd like to lose a good 20 pounds so we'll see how long this lasts. It's going to be much tougher on the weekends and on wednesdays for me! I didn't feel too hungry today and it actually seems like I am eating quite a bit since you need to eat every 2-3 hours. Here is what I had today:

breakfast: bluberry flavored oatmeal
mid morning meal: orange cream shake
lunch: tomato soup
afternoon meal: peanut butter bar
supper: grilled chicken breast, 1 cup broccoli, 2 cups romaine lettuce w/ no cal dressing
night time meal: I still have a dutch chocolate shake to go!

No Yoder's subs on Wednesday???? Also, maybe keep it to 10 lbs. you don't need to lose more than that!

That’s great..! Many women really appreciate the Medifast diet 5 & 1 plan because they can choose 5 meals from over 60 choices.

Brenda! I was so excited to see that you posted how you were doing on this diet. I agree with Jen, you do not need to lose 20 lbs..Good luck, keep with it! I know it's tough, weekends and dinner time are the hardest for me..I feel your pain!:)

agree with jenny and megan...20 pounds seems like too much...but as far as the diet...very nice that you eat every couple of hours. How do the bars taste?

Good luck Brenda! at least you can eat frequently, that should help. By the way, I think you look great just the way you are !
